Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve or TATR is popularly called as Tadoba. Tadoba National Park was created way back in 1955 making it the oldest Tiger Project in Maharashtra. It is spread over a vast core area of 625 sq. km. This is surrounded with 200 sq. km of buffer surrounding the core area.
Tadoba Andhari Reserve is the largest national park in Maharashtra. The total area of the reserve is 625.4 square kilometres (241.5 sq mi). This includes Tadoba National Park, with an area of 116.55 square kilometres (45.00 sq mi) and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary with an area of 508.85 square kilometres (196.47 sq mi). Tadoba Reserve covers the Chimur Hills, whereas the Andhari Sanctuary covers Mohrali & Kosla ranges. Densely forested hills form the northern & western boundaries of the tiger reserve. To the south west is the Tadoba lake spanning over 300 acres. Tadoba lake acts as a natural cushion between the park's forest & the extensive farmland which extends upto to the Irai water reservoir. Tadoba lake is a perennial water source which offers good habitat for crocodiles to thrive. Other wetland areas within the reserve include the Kosla lake & the Andhari river.
Entry is available for morning as well as evening tours. Gypsey, guides are available at the entry points and not to be booked in advance. Charges for forest entry, gypsey, guide are given.
There are 88 tigers, as of August 2016 in the reserve, and 58 in the forests immediately outside the reserve. Tadoba accounts for almost half of the tiger population of Maharashtra.
The Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is a wildlife sanctuary in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra state in India. It is Maharashtra's oldest and largest national park. Created in 1955, the reserve includes the Tadoba National Park and the Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary.
